Search Console for creators
How to Add a YouTube Channel to Google Search Console
Google Search Console Platform Properties let YouTube creators monitor how their videos and channel content perform when people discover them through Google.
The reports can show traffic from Google Search and, when your content appears there, Discover and Google News.
Before You Begin
You will need:
- Ownership of, or authorized access to, the YouTube channel.
- A Google account that can access Google Search Console.
- Platform Properties to be available in your Search Console account.
1Open Google Search Console
Sign in to Google Search Console. You can begin from the welcome screen or open the property-selector menu in the sidebar.
2Select Add Property
Open the property selector and choose Add property. Search Console will display the property types currently available to your account.
3Choose YouTube
Find YouTube in the list of supported platforms and select Add.
4Verify Channel Ownership
Follow the onscreen instructions to authorize the connection to your YouTube channel.
Google may verify ownership through a direct platform login or through an existing website property associated with the channel.
Be sure that you select the correct channel if your Google account manages more than one YouTube channel.
5Open the Platform Property
After verification succeeds, Search Console will display a confirmation message. Select Go to property to finish setup.
New properties may initially show empty reports. Google says it can take several days for performance data to begin appearing.
What YouTube Data Can You See?
Platform Properties focus on performance and traffic generated through Google rather than activity occurring inside YouTube.
- Total clicks from Google.
- Total impressions.
- Average click-through rate.
- Average search position.
- Search queries connected to your content.
- Individual videos or posts receiving traffic.
- Performance trends over time.

Search Console vs YouTube Studio
YouTube Studio measures what happens on YouTube, including views, watch time, subscribers, audience retention and engagement.
Search Console focuses on how your YouTube content performs across Google. It can reveal which Google queries surface your videos and which videos attract clicks from search results.
How Can Creators Use This Data?
- Find questions that already surface your videos in Google.
- Identify videos with many impressions but relatively few clicks.
- Compare the Google visibility of different subjects.
- Improve video titles and descriptions where appropriate.
- Expand successful videos into articles, follow-up videos or tools.
- Monitor whether Google visibility grows after publishing new content.
Why Is My YouTube Property Showing No Data?
A new property may remain empty for several days while Google begins collecting and processing its data.
Other possible reasons include:
- The channel has received little or no visibility from Google yet.
- The property was only recently created.
- The external authorization has expired.
- You connected a different YouTube channel than intended.
Google periodically checks ownership. If the connection expires, access to the property pauses until you verify it again. Previously collected reporting remains available after reconnection.
Managing Multiple YouTube Channels
Add each YouTube channel as a separate Platform Property. This keeps the performance reporting for each channel independent.
