Search Console Platform Properties Troubleshooting
Use this guide to diagnose common problems when adding or using a Platform Property for Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube in Google Search Console.
Quick troubleshooting checklist
- Confirm that Platform Properties appear on the Add property screen.
- Confirm that the account belongs to Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube.
- Confirm that you are signing into the intended platform account.
- Complete every ownership-verification or authorization prompt.
- Allow several days for initial data processing.
- Reconnect the external account if Search Console says access has paused.
Common Platform Property problems
I do not see Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube under Add Property
Google is gradually rolling out Platform Properties, and the feature may not yet be enabled for every Search Console user.
During the rollout, some accounts may continue to show only:
- Domain Property
- URL-prefix Property
I tried to add my Instagram or YouTube account as a URL prefix
A third-party creator account should be added using the dedicated Platform Property option—not as a Domain or URL-prefix Property.
Website property verification normally requires control over the website or domain. You generally do not control the domain-level verification for a profile hosted on a service such as Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube.
The wrong social account or channel was connected
This can happen when your browser is already signed into a different account on the external platform.
Ownership verification did not complete
Search Console must verify that you control the account or channel before completing the Platform Property setup.
Check the following:
- You completed every external login prompt.
- You selected the intended creator account or channel.
- You did not close the connection window prematurely.
- Your browser did not block the authorization flow.
- You are using the intended Google account in Search Console.
The property was added, but no data appears
Google states that it can take a few days for data to appear after a Platform Property is created.
A new property may initially display an empty chart. It may later show only partial data beginning from the date that collection started.
The report contains very few impressions or clicks
Platform Properties report encounters with eligible content through Google. They do not report all views or engagement occurring inside the third-party platform.
A profile can therefore have substantial activity on Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube while showing limited activity in Search Console.
The totals in Insights do not match the detailed lists
Google explains that the top summary card in Insights can include clicks from across Google, including web, image, video and news search. Detailed lists below it may focus only on web-search traffic.
I do not see Discover or Google News reports
Google says that Discover and News reports appear only when the property receives traffic from those surfaces.
Access to the Platform Property has paused
Google periodically rechecks ownership. If the external platform login or authorization expires, access to the property can pause until the connection is verified again.
One property does not show all of my social accounts
Platform Properties are created separately for each account or channel.
Connecting one Instagram profile does not automatically add a TikTok account, YouTube channel or second Instagram profile.
Problem-to-action summary
| Problem | Likely explanation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| No Platform Property options | Gradual rollout | Check availability again later |
| Verification fails | Account or authorization problem | Confirm logins and repeat the connection flow |
| Empty report after setup | Initial processing delay | Allow several days |
| Few clicks or impressions | Report covers Google discovery, not all platform activity | Compare with native platform analytics |
| No News or Discover report | No reportable traffic from that surface | Continue monitoring |
| Property access paused | External authorization expired | Reconnect and reverify the account |
| Other profiles are missing | Each profile requires its own property | Add each account separately |
