Search Console Platform Properties Troubleshooting

Use this guide to diagnose common problems when adding or using a Platform Property for Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube in Google Search Console.

The feature may simply be unavailable to your account. Google is gradually rolling out Platform Properties. Seeing only Domain and URL-prefix options does not necessarily mean that your Search Console account is misconfigured.

Quick troubleshooting checklist

  1. Confirm that Platform Properties appear on the Add property screen.
  2. Confirm that the account belongs to Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube.
  3. Confirm that you are signing into the intended platform account.
  4. Complete every ownership-verification or authorization prompt.
  5. Allow several days for initial data processing.
  6. Reconnect the external account if Search Console says access has paused.

Common Platform Property problems

Availability

I do not see Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube under Add Property

Google is gradually rolling out Platform Properties, and the feature may not yet be enabled for every Search Console user.

During the rollout, some accounts may continue to show only:

  • Domain Property
  • URL-prefix Property
Recommended action Check the Add Property screen again later. Avoid repeatedly creating website properties, changing DNS records or modifying your site in an attempt to unlock a feature that has not yet reached your account.
Wrong property type

I tried to add my Instagram or YouTube account as a URL prefix

A third-party creator account should be added using the dedicated Platform Property option—not as a Domain or URL-prefix Property.

Website property verification normally requires control over the website or domain. You generally do not control the domain-level verification for a profile hosted on a service such as Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube.

Recommended action Return to Add Property and select the dedicated option beside the supported platform. If that option is absent, the feature may not yet be available to your account.
Account connection

The wrong social account or channel was connected

This can happen when your browser is already signed into a different account on the external platform.

Recommended action Verify which platform account is active before starting the connection process. Sign out of unintended accounts or use a separate browser session, then repeat the connection using the correct account.
Verification

Ownership verification did not complete

Search Console must verify that you control the account or channel before completing the Platform Property setup.

Check the following:

  • You completed every external login prompt.
  • You selected the intended creator account or channel.
  • You did not close the connection window prematurely.
  • Your browser did not block the authorization flow.
  • You are using the intended Google account in Search Console.
Recommended action Restart the Add Property process and carefully follow the platform connection prompts. If the external service reports an authorization error, confirm that you can sign into that service normally before retrying.
Initial reporting

The property was added, but no data appears

Google states that it can take a few days for data to appear after a Platform Property is created.

A new property may initially display an empty chart. It may later show only partial data beginning from the date that collection started.

Recommended action Confirm that setup was completed successfully, then allow several days before treating the empty report as a technical problem.
Low activity

The report contains very few impressions or clicks

Platform Properties report encounters with eligible content through Google. They do not report all views or engagement occurring inside the third-party platform.

A profile can therefore have substantial activity on Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube while showing limited activity in Search Console.

Recommended action Compare like with like. Use the platform's native analytics for activity inside the platform, and use Search Console to evaluate discovery and traffic associated with Google surfaces.
Report differences

The totals in Insights do not match the detailed lists

Google explains that the top summary card in Insights can include clicks from across Google, including web, image, video and news search. Detailed lists below it may focus only on web-search traffic.

Recommended action Check the scope of each card, list and filter before assuming that the report is missing data.
Google surfaces

I do not see Discover or Google News reports

Google says that Discover and News reports appear only when the property receives traffic from those surfaces.

Recommended action The absence of one of these reports does not necessarily indicate a setup failure. The account may simply not have received reportable traffic from that surface.
Expired connection

Access to the Platform Property has paused

Google periodically rechecks ownership. If the external platform login or authorization expires, access to the property can pause until the connection is verified again.

Recommended action Follow Search Console's prompt to reconnect or reauthorize the external account. Google says that re-verification restores access to the same report without requiring the data to accumulate again from the beginning.
Multiple profiles

One property does not show all of my social accounts

Platform Properties are created separately for each account or channel.

Connecting one Instagram profile does not automatically add a TikTok account, YouTube channel or second Instagram profile.

Recommended action Repeat the Add Property process for each supported account or channel you manage.
Do not confuse platform reporting with website reporting. Use a Domain or URL-prefix Property to troubleshoot your own website's indexing, sitemap, crawling or page-performance issues. Platform Properties are for supported third-party creator accounts and channels.
