Search Console Platform Properties FAQ

Google Search Console Platform Properties let eligible creators and publishers monitor how content from supported third-party platforms performs when people encounter it through Google.

Platform Properties are not website properties. A Platform Property represents an individual creator account or channel. Websites continue to use Domain or URL-prefix Properties.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Search Console Platform Property?

A Platform Property represents your presence on an eligible third-party platform. It allows you to see reporting about how content associated with that account or channel performs through Google.

Which platforms currently support Platform Properties?

Google currently lists Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube as supported platforms.

Supported services may change as Google expands or modifies the feature.

Who are Platform Properties intended for?

They are intended for creators and publishers who post content on supported platforms and want to understand how people discover that content through Google.

Do Platform Properties replace Domain Properties?

No. Domain and URL-prefix Properties remain the property types used for websites.

A Platform Property is a separate property for a supported creator account or channel.

Can one Platform Property contain several social accounts?

No. Each supported account or channel must be added as its own property.

For example, an Instagram profile and a YouTube channel would be added separately. Two profiles on the same platform would also require separate Platform Properties.

What information can a Platform Property show?

Depending on the property and available data, Search Console can provide information about content performance and traffic trends, including:

  • Clicks
  • Impressions
  • Average click-through rate
  • Average search position
  • Top-performing content
  • Recent traffic trends

Performance may be reported for Google Search and, when the content receives traffic from them, Google News and Discover.

Does it show views from inside Instagram or TikTok?

No. A Platform Property reports how eligible content performs on Google surfaces.

It does not show how many times users viewed your content while browsing inside Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube itself.

How does Google count an impression?

An impression can be recorded when eligible platform content appears on a supported Google surface.

For example, Google states that an Instagram Story appearing in Google Search can count as an impression. A video shown in Search or Discover can also count as an impression.

How does Google count a click?

A click can be counted when someone selects eligible platform content after encountering it through Google.

Google notes that a click may still be counted when a video opens inside a Google viewer rather than immediately sending the user to the third-party platform.

Why do I not see the Platform Property option?

Google is gradually rolling out this feature. It may not yet be available to your Search Console account.

If the Add Property screen only shows Domain and URL-prefix options, the most likely explanation during the rollout is that Platform Properties have not yet been enabled for your account.

How do I create a Platform Property?
  1. Open the Search Console welcome screen or the property selector.
  2. Select Add property.
  3. Select Add beside the supported platform you want to connect.
  4. Follow the connection and ownership-verification prompts.
  5. After verification succeeds, select Go to property.
Do I need to prove that I own the account or channel?

Yes. You must complete the connection and ownership-verification process before accessing the Platform Property.

How long does it take for data to appear?

Google states that it can take a few days for report data to begin appearing after setup.

A newly created property may initially display an empty chart or only partial data collected since the property was added.

Does Search Console provide historical data from before setup?

Google's documentation says that a new Platform Property may show data only from the date collection began. You should not assume that complete historical reporting from before setup will be available.

Why did access to my Platform Property pause?

Google periodically checks ownership for security. Access may pause if the external platform connection or login expires.

Reauthorizing the connection should restore access to the same report.

Will I lose accumulated data if I reconnect?

Google says that after re-verification, you regain access to the same report and do not need to wait for data to accumulate again.

Do Platform Properties improve Google rankings?

Adding a property gives you access to reporting. It should not be treated as a method for increasing rankings.

The information can, however, help you understand which eligible content is already being discovered through Google.
