How to Import Google Search Console into Bing Webmaster Tools

Bing Webmaster Tools can import eligible verified websites and sitemaps from Google Search Console. This lets many website owners add their sites to Bing without repeating a separate manual verification process.

What the import does It adds selected Search Console properties to Bing Webmaster Tools, automatically verifies eligible sites and imports associated sitemap information. It does not copy Google search-performance data into Bing.

Before you begin

You need access to Bing Webmaster Tools.
You need a Google account with access to one or more verified Google Search Console website properties.
The permission level associated with the property must be sufficient for Bing to recognize and import it.
Your browser must allow the Google authorization process to open and complete.

Import Google Search Console sites into Bing

Sign in to Bing Webmaster Tools

Open Bing Webmaster Tools and sign in. You can use a supported Microsoft, Google or Facebook sign-in method.

Open the site import option

From the site management area, select the option to import sites from Google Search Console.

Depending on the current interface, this may appear when adding a site or on the main site-selection screen.

Connect the correct Google account

If you manage properties through more than one Google account, you can repeat the connection process for the additional accounts.

Review and grant access

Google will display an authorization request. Review the request and allow Bing Webmaster Tools to access the information required to identify your verified Search Console sites and sitemaps.

Only approve the connection when the authorization screen identifies the expected accounts and services. Never provide a password directly to an unrelated third-party page.

Select the websites to import

Bing will display eligible properties from the connected Search Console account. The selection screen may also show:

The site or property URL
Your role or permission level
The number of associated sitemaps

Select the sites you want to add to Bing Webmaster Tools.

Confirm the import

Select Import to finish. Successfully imported sites should be added and automatically verified in Bing Webmaster Tools.

Allow Bing time to generate data

Bing says that it may take up to approximately 48 hours for newly added sites to begin showing traffic and analytics data.

An empty dashboard immediately after import does not necessarily mean that the import failed.

What should you check after importing?

Confirm the correct property

Check the protocol and hostname.
Confirm that the intended site appears.
Look for duplicate or normalized property versions.

Review imported sitemaps

Confirm that the expected sitemap appears.
Check its processing status.
Remove obsolete sitemap entries when appropriate.

Inspect important URLs

Test the homepage.
Test recently published pages.
Review Bing's crawl or indexing information.

The import is not a one-time transfer of Google data. Bing periodically uses the connected Search Console account to validate ownership. It may also detect and import new sitemaps found through the connected account.

Import troubleshooting

A Search Console property is missing from the import list

Possible explanations include:

You connected the wrong Google account.
Your permission level is insufficient.
The property already exists in Bing with equal or higher access.
Bing normalized or grouped related property URLs.
The property is not an eligible website property.

Confirm the Google account and your Search Console access before reconnecting.

The import succeeded, but no data appears

Allow up to approximately 48 hours for Bing to generate initial traffic and analytics information.

Also remember that Bing reports Bing data. A website with substantial Google traffic may initially have little measurable Bing activity.

The sitemap did not import

Check whether the sitemap is associated with the selected Search Console property and whether Bing can access the sitemap URL.

You can also submit the sitemap manually inside Bing Webmaster Tools.

Bing says my ownership can no longer be confirmed

Bing periodically validates ownership through the connected Search Console account. This may fail if:

The Google connection was revoked.
You lost access to the Search Console property.
The connected account changed.

Reconnect the Search Console account or verify the site through another supported Bing method, such as DNS, an XML verification file or a homepage meta tag.

Can I disconnect Google Search Console afterward?

Bing provides a disconnect option for linked Search Console accounts in the profile area.

Because Bing uses the connection for periodic ownership validation, disconnecting it may require you to verify imported sites through an alternative method.

Does importing improve rankings?

Importing does not guarantee higher rankings. It gives Bing access to the verified site and sitemap information needed to establish the Webmaster Tools property.

The resulting reports can help you find crawl, indexing and search visibility issues, but the act of importing is not itself a ranking boost.
